The digital readout is easy to see, with nice big blackletters and numbers for the important information. The sound is crispand clear. There are many voices and rhythms to choose from. The folk and classical rhythmsand accompaniments are WONDERFUL and not found on other keyboards. Ilike the piano voices in my CT640 better though. Maybe one day I willhave this set up as a MIDI and can download those better voices fromthe Casio website into this keyboard. It's really a very niceinstrument, with a headphone jack that works well, putting out asimilar sound to what comes through the speakers. Because the pianovoices are not the greatest, I recommend adding a sustain pedal whenordering as well as the power adapter, and, if your earphones have thelittle pin plugs, you will need a stereo phone plug to stereo pin plugadapter.

Casio AP-500 Digital Piano Gets High MarksThis is my 3rd digital piano and its a keeper. There is nocompetition in this price range. Casio has produced a very fineintstrument in the AP-500.The sound quality is excellent, powered by 4-speaker 60 wattamplifier. The piano sound itself is pleasant, not as bright as aYamaha and not as dull as a Baldwin baby. A couple of the electricsounds are pretty good, too. The sound resonates and you can feel itthrough vibrations as you play, like a real piano.The touch is heavier than most digitals, but you get used to itwithin a week or so. Personally, I prefer the heavier touch and itseems more piano-like.The 128 polyphony is perfect. I'm pretty heavy on the damper when iplay and don't notice notes dropping off, even in a long gliss. Its oneof the features you need to have that helps make it sound correct.The case is nicely built and has a rosewood finish (I don't knowwhat the one reviewer was complaining about, there are very few digitalpianos made out of real wood anywhere) and goes with furniture prettywell. The 3 pedals are metal and I think the damper supports halfpedaling. Assembly is easy.Its far superior to the PX-800 in sound and features. Fewer buttonpushes required to change settings, and more buttons are dedicated toeach function. The sound system and speakers are simply bigger andbetter, giving fuller and more realistic sound.Nice, wide music desk that folds down. The unit takes a littlewhile to power on since it goes through a self-test each startup.Overall, its a great sounding piano with weighted, grades keys thathas all the features you need and more that you probably never use.Simply turn it on and play and you'll be impressed at how it feels andresponds. Highly recommended.You got it! The Grand Piano.I was shopping for piano for almost 4 months and evaluated all kindof options in price range up to $3500. The acoustic upright also was anoption. I once made $500 mistake by buying "premium" piano from M-Audio(total junk, it is as much piano as I'm ballet dancer) so I was verycautious. I'm by no means a pro level piano player but I can throw jazztune one or two and most of my life I was near good players. So I cantell when it is good. When looking for piano, the action and sound aremost important. You do not buy the touch itself, or the sound itself,but the overall experience of playing piano. All of the additionalsounds are nice to have but not have to have. I liked this Celviano so much that it outshines to my tastes allthe competition. I liked the keyboard very much. It is heavier thanYamaha's YDP223 but it is as close to the real 5'2" grand's keys that Ipersonally can't tell a difference. It makes more difficult in thebeginning to play fast passages, but in two weeks, your playingimproves dramatically. It shows much greater control over dynamics witharticulated expression. The sound of the instrument is absolutely terrific! The speakersystems and sampling makes the playing and the listening as pleasurableas it can get. The sound system in the instrument is very wellconceived and it sound as close to the real instrument as it gets. Casio thoughtfully provides music notation books with the pianoand marked the difficulty levels of as A,B,C. I guess the includedrepertoire is just a little bit over optimistic, because somethingtells me that I will not play Chopin's "Fantasy Impromptu" even in tenyears ;-). But in "play" mode it sound SO AMAZING it worth just havingthe piano for music enjoyment. It is just like `player's piano", proplayer on demand to entertain you and your guests.The keyboard is responsive, dynamic to a touch, resisting, verynatural. The pedals done simply amazing! It keeps reverberating andrattling just like a real thing. It responds in all sorts of naturalintermixed vibrations, very nice. It feels like you play an instrument,not some fake substitution. When you play it there's absolutely no feelof "sorry" and of "one day I'll have a real one". I must say Casiocommissioned in ap-500 one amazing instrument. I tried MANY differentpianos both digital and acoustic. You can get bigger and fuller soundon fortissimo out of upright piano if you aim into $5000++ price range.I found this Cilviano performs on par with normal, inexpensive 5'2"grand I play sometimes in a club and it outperforms, hands down any oflow prices acoustical pianos. I really liked action of new Roland andsamples of Yamaha but this piano stands firmly by them with virtues ofits own. It is not better, not worse it is somewhat different as theyall are. I had great hopes for Kawai's much claimed "real wood" keyaction, but to my taste it is weird. The return path is too slow to myliking. I liked Roland's keys, I especially liked they older and uniqueFP-5 piano's action but it is out of production and its newer versionis more on "piano" side and on this side I found this Casio moreefficient. I need to stress it, the action is very debative subject.You MUST try it yourself to find which one fits you best.I must mention that other sounds are very nice as well. The entirerange of pianos on this unit is very tasteful, true and pleasurable. Ican't say how durable it is as I'm a new owner, but the wooden cabinetis strikingly beautiful, nicely done and makes great part in my livingroom appearance. If you see my review as overenthusiastic it is becauseI really like this my baby and I don't affiliate with Casio in any wayexcept as I'm a customer. I got my new piano from Kraft Music as a partof the bundle that includes Casio's piano bench, lamp and headphones.Must say they offer first rate service and I will buy from them again.Great value - 4.5 stars
Upfront disclaimer - I'm a novice at piano, and bought it primarily
for my son. The priority for product selection was price, looks, then
action etc. I got this after plenty of research online, and so far, it
has totally lived up to my expectations.

Looks good, sounds good, everyone's who's seen and heard it has liked it.

I think it would look better in black color - but this is very nice
too and goes with the furniture. In my mind that's the only basis for
the 0.5 star deduction.

It seems to have all the nice features - recording, split, MIDI, SD card etc. and my son and I truly enjoy playing on it.

The other alternative I considered was Yamahas which a friend
strongly recommended - but they're not available online and I did'nt
feel upto visiting a store and bargaining down the price. In any case,
I don't think I could have got an equivalent one anywhere at this price
point. At the one piano store that I did visit, there was a another
name brand digital which the guy was recommending as best value, but
that was over $800 more than this and from what I know now, this is a
better value.

It is fairly straightforward to setup, but you do need one more
adult to help with lifting the piano on the stand. It took me about 30
min to assemble.

Lastly, if you're brand conscious (my wife is..) it does'nt say Casio on top of the piano which would have been a drawback.

Impressed enough that I bought it ! ! ! There was a time when no self respectable Middle Class Americanfamily would have a living void of some musical instrument, especiallya piano - - whether or not it was actually played, tuned, or merelyused to hold photographs. - - Today, that space has been claimed forthe most part by what's know as the HOME ENTERTAINMENT CENTER, andunderstandably so, because perhaps 30 or 40 years ago the only reasonpeople played the piano in the first place was to combat pre-cable TV,VCR and internet boredome and when the kids grew up and everyone foundbetter things to do it would never get played anyway.I say this because the fact that the piano has gone missing frommost homes is a sad thing for those who like to play it... butinteresting because now people who are likely to buy a piano may verywell do so because they want one that actually suits their playingpurposes (not merely matches with the furniture and proves how big apiano they can afford!) - - and luckily the digital keyboardmanufacturers realize this. For this reason, not only do I believe thata digital piano with a nice sound, realistic feel and the option ofwearing headphones when its played late at night IS actually a reallygreat choice to make for a good home piano (especially if you don'thave the space or money for a baby grand.) I was particularly impressedwith the AP-45 because not only is its sound compatible with the homeconsole I came up playing, it actually sounds and feels better thanmany of the home consoles I grew up playing as a kid. (*you have torememeber that back in the days the smaller pianos often had a muffledsound and not as good touch as the better and more expensive storemodels - - and if you came from a family that skimped on tuning andmaintenence you had to deal with other problems as well, including thedreaded broken/slipped dampers!)As for the CASIO name - - I am amazed. When I was a kid, we used togo to stores like Korvets, K-Mars and Sears and CASIO was synonomouswith department store JUNK electronics... A few months ago, I wastrying out the floor models (at K's Denki in Tokyo where I now live)and was amazed that the Casios were blowing away all the other consoles(within their price range.) Though most sounded pretty much the same,the area that CASIO seems to have beaten them out on was overall feeland response.For those of you seeking a digital piano that has the same basicfeatures of a piano (not a home organ, electone or midi keyboard), agreat feel, nice living room look and pretty good sound I woulddefinitely conclude the AP-45 is definitely a great option... I wanted to see if I would really take an interest inpiano or not. I did, and today I bought the Casio AP45 digital piano. The sound on this thing is incredible. I assumed when I wentshopping I would be buying a Yamaha. But the moment I heard this one Iwas sold. When you close your eyes, it's like you're playing a grandpiano. You can sense it in the room. The harpsichord is very sharp. Theorgan is great as well. Fitting so many classical instruments into one88 keyed instrument! How amazing?It is housed in a beautifully finished brown wood. Easy to useinterface. Keys are graded (heavier in the bass) so the feeling isexactly that of a grand piano. If you are looking for the bestrecreation of a grand piano $1,000 can buy, look no further.Good piano, solid performanceI bought this piano through COSTCO and it came disassembled in abox. Apparently the manufacturer wants to save on labor costs and onspace. Well that's ok as long as how-to-assemble instructions areprovided. To my dismay, I found none of that. I could not believe it!Here I am, looking at a thousand dollars worth of parts and not asingle sheet of writing on how to put it together. So, trusting my gutsand my intuition I put it together. Ok, it wasn't that hard and afterall I never read the instructions that are in the box, but because ofthis I'm always left with a few 'spare parts' around. This time I gotit right - nothing left behind! The sound especially that of the grand piano seems to be in thehigh end of the digital piano quality, though if you have a goodmusical ear you will notice that the harmonics you get in a note playedon an acoustic piano, especially on the low and high end of thespectrum are richer resulting in a better quality.The dynamics of the keyboard, unlike those in many digital pianos,are excellent and playing on it feels like you are playing on a goodacoustic upright piano.I was also impressed by playing with the headphones and the wholeexperience is unbelievably realistic and high quality. However, forbest experience I recommend you use a good set of headphones, such asthe Koss Titanium Pro-3AA and not those little ones you may feelcompelled to borrow from your ipod.There are not very many features like the ones you find in otherhigh-end digital pianos but the sound quality is unbeatable. Overallthe AP-45 is a good choice for me given its price.

The best 17 lbs. money can buy...For the gigging keyboardist, the Electro 61 falls somewhere betweena Godsend and a no-brainer. It's hard to avoid hyperbole whendiscussing this instrument, but anyone who has toted a Hammond rig anda Wurlie and a controller and peripherals and every other blasted thingwill get my drift. For 29 years, I've been condemned to driving a cargovan full of vintage keys which weren't designed to leave the livingroom in the first place. I've herniated myself in the process, and wasalmost killed in a rear-end collision that flipped my 'B' upside down.I have made every effort to 'scale down' -- Korg CX3, Micro B, RolandVK7, Oberheim, Hammond XM3, and oddball stuff. All of theaforementioned fell woefully short of Hammond heaven, and of course,didn't offer any EP features or anything else.The buzz about the Nord was intriguing, so I checked one out at alocal store. Typically, the young, cooler-than-thou clerk could barelyget the thing to power up, and I was pretty much left to navigate on myown. But five minutes on the Electro made me a believer (of COURSE Iordered one online -- any dope on the floor of a music store who can'tget a keyboard that produces five sounds to work doesn't get hiscommission from me). Here goes (note -- run this guy stereo, even if ya have to buy alittle PA to do so): the Hammond end of things is simply exquisite. Idid a little EQ stuff (the Electro features EQ and presence knobs onthe dashboard. What a concept! You know, you can actually tweak yoursound during performance...), rolled back the key click, and entered myown registrations. Fat, juicy, and soulful. Big, even in the highharmonics. Not a trace of cheese. Outlandish chorus. Completelypersuasive percussion. The best Leslie ever, and I don't mean 'prettygood.' It sounds like the real deal. I personally don't have an issuewith the 'draw-buttons' and I like controlling the Leslie speed viafootswitch. The last thing I want is another broken bakelite switchhanging pitifully on my 'board.Rhodes: ya want Richard Tee? Yassah. "Just the Way You Are?"(you'll actually want to play the old warhorse) -- roger roger. SteelyDan ala Victor Feldman and/or "Nightfly" stuff? Yes jones. Through theElectro, younger players might actually discover what a Rhodes reallysounds like. Twenty years of screaching over-cranked synth knockoffsdid the Rhodes sound no favors.Wurlie: intitially, I couldn't find one quite 'mean' enough, butfive minutes with 'presence' did the trick. Early Ray, in a big way. Alittle tremolo and it's Mussel Sholes central. Just like my 200. Playslike it too. Light, but CONFIDENT feeling.Clavs: good grief. Perfect.CP80: Back in the day, I wanted one desperately. But, of course,like every thing else back in the day, I coudn't afford one. Now I OWNone. I LOVE it. Newbies probably won't 'get' the CP80, but us oldtimers will have our fun.Piano: contrary to most opinions, I think the piano is very good. Idon't like it as well as my Kurweil 1200 Pro I, but it's entirelyusable. I re-EQed it, rolling off some of the not-so-pleasant highs.Prior to a gig recently, I played some standards using the piano sound.I was testing the waters to see if the relatively short keyboard andon-board piano would work for jobbing. Absolutely. It won't cut stride,but an Evans-esque approach is A-OK.Conclusion: the Electro 61 is hands-down the most impressive andexciting 'keyboard' I've ever owned, and I have had a ton of stuff.Unlike a synth, it is designed for the player to make music on it. Inthat sense, it is a bonafide musical instrument. Sounds great! BUT...The big but. If you've ever played a real B-3 you may well be infor a disappointment. While the sound is beyond belief, the lack ofreal drawbars is Nord's downfall. You loose the ability to instictively"fly" your hand up to change settings. Nord's drawbar "buttons" are farfrom instant, hard to control, and have top be watched in order to getthe setting you want. Also, whils the Leslie is the best simulator I'veever heard (2 amps for best results. I use Genz Benz UC4's)you're gonnamiss the half moon Leslie switch. I had many B-3's and I have two Nord61's. Some compensation comes from the other sounds, but much is lostin the transition from the real instruments. I've also had many Wurlysand Clavs. Mostly you loose the ability to control attack. Are theyworth it? Well if you can't have the real thing(s)...YES. The keys seemto break at the back for no reason at all, so be prepared to pay $10per replacement. (Nord: Please use better material)The up side is greatsound and portability. Nord: Build a dual manual with real drawbars,and a half moon switch and you'll have accomplished the impossible.Note the four stars... It was almost three. At this point, would I partwith mine? NO! I'm too old to lug two amps, a B-3, a Leslie, and twoother boards. You should also buy ONLY an Ultimate support single posttype stand. Just do it. Could the Nord 61 be better? Most certainly,but nothing else is. Best B-3 sound short of a B-3. P.S. Nord 61s ARE"keyboards". I really miss "riding" my B-3... Retro RaverIf you like the organ work on Santana's Abraxas, or the cool soundsof Fender Rhodes on Bitches Brew, then you want to try out this board.You also get Clavinet (Superstition), CP-80 (In your eyes.) andWurlitzer (LA Woman).The keyboard is quite comfortable (except maybe for the competent,but uninspiring accoustic piano samples), and the effects are spare ,but of high quality, especially the tube overdrive and a fantasticleslie.Clavia offers a few extra voice samples which can be downloadedfree from their site and inserted by USB onto the board. (Speaking ofretro, though, if you are using Mac, you have to dig up OS 9; it won'trun on X.) I only wish that these sly swedes would loosen up a littlebit and consider sampling mellotron or maybe some arp strings.Still, I can't get enough of those cool Rhodes tones, thrashing and chiming about. This thing is a blast.

very good quality
A year ago, I was looking for an inexpensive digital piano. After
sampling several options at places like Guitar Center and the like, I
reduced my choices to three: the YDP-160 and Casio's PX800 and AP200.
Despite costing a lot more, I went with the Yamaha.

After almost daily (OK, nightly) use, I can say in full confidence that I'm happy with the choice I made.

Unlike the Casios, the Yamaha piano is sturdy. Unlike the Casios,
the key action is very realistic and the sound generation excellent,
with nice and well rounded warmth and color. Yes, it's not a real,
mechanical piano, but when you play it it feels very natural.

The only downside I can think of is the output power, which, at
2x20W(?), is not enough to fill a large room. It's more than OK for the
kid's practice and I'm using the headphones when playing so this is not
an issue.

If you're no ready to spend the money on a Clavinova (or even an upright) but want a good-sounding, quality digital piano, look no further.

Not Reviewed by a ProfessionalI'm certainly not a professional, however, I do know what a pianois supposed to sound like, and I know the difference between aHarpsichord, Organ, and a Harmonica: 'nuff said.First of all I would like to say that the Williams Digital Piano isby far the best instrument I have ever owned, next to my toy, an oldCasio keyboard that I owned for quite some time, I was happy to finallysell that off in a garage sale. When I went hunting for another piano,I took my Sony headphones and headed off to various stores with digitalpianos. This one by far sounded the closest to a real upright piano(Well, the Yamaha was closer, but another 1K more expensive...), and ithad the features and look I was wanting.Pros ---1. The weighted digital piano keys mimic perfectly thehammer-action of a real piano, and the sound is equally amazing. As Isaid I tested it out in headphones, and even at home in total silencethe headphones are clear as anything and sound perfect. The built-inspeakers that are attached to the piano work equally as well. I'tested' it note-for-note, unplugging my headphones and listening tothe built-in speakers, and I can safely say that I don't hear adifference at all. No "fuzzy-sounds", no buzzing, no humming, etc.Sounds nice.2. After listening to several Harpsichord songs, I played a fewnotes on the piano to compare. So far I can't tell the differencebetween the notes played in the song and the ones I played on thepiano.3. So, of COURSE I played thePlay-Along songs while I waited for my real books to arrive. One of theirks I have is that when you use the digital piano to listen to theplay-along songs, be forewarned that it is MUCH louder than when youare playing the piano normally. Also, if you are trying to play along,you have to compensate the volume by turning it down to hear the songcorrectly, but I also had a hard time hearing what I was playing on thepiano!2. Same thing goes with the metronome. It is MUCH louder than the'volume' of the piano. If I had to change something, it would be howloud the Metronome sounds as compared to the piano. The volume, whenrecording songs and playing them back, however, is at the 'same volume'as the piano. Don't know if it is just my piano or what, but listeningto the Play-Along songs and using the metronome is quite annoying.3. I'm a computer programmer. I bought this piano because it camewith a USB cable, anddd I thought I could use my computer knowledge toretrieve the songs off of the Williams Digital Piano. Not-so-much.There is no way to get the recorded songs off of the piano, the onlything the USB cable does is transmit the MIDI messages to a computer ifyou have the correct software installed. For me, kinda pointless.Well, I think that about sums it up. Oh yeah, well, I don't thinkthat this is a "Con" per-se, however: this piano comes disassembled.Which means that you have to assemble it. Fine, but the problem lies:this piano does not have instructions included to tell you how toassemble the piano. I, personally, was able to assemble is promptly.However, at first it was irksome laying out all the pieces and figuringout what goes where.

OUTSTANDING!I bought the PCR-500 to use with Sonar 7 PE, and have had ZERO problems so far.The keyboard itself is very nice, both in quality and design. Whilethis is my first controller keyboard, I have used a number of synthsand basic portable polyphonic keyboards.I won't waste time spouting out features when it's far easier tojust go to Roland's site and see the details. Suffice to day, thekeyboard does what it's designed to.I just installed the drivers, set my midi in/out in Sonar, picked a softsynth, and was good to go.For me the PCR-500 was the perfect size for the space I have. If Ihad more room I'd of gone for the larger PCR-800, so keep space in mindwhen you choose a model to get. The PCR-300, 500, and 800 all have thesame exact control surfaces and abilities, just a different number ofactual keys. And honestly the number of keys doesn't matter because youcan always change the octive up or down using either a set of buttonson the keyboard, or via your DAW application.What I like the best though... it's USB bus powered. Rock on!

Solid performance at a great value for a former piano playerAs a kid I learned how to play on a real piano for 8 years. Ibought this keyboard three months ago wanting to play more and havebeen very satisfied so far. Pros:1. The tri-element ZPI casio menions makes the keys pressuresensitive so that when you play softly or loud it will sound that way.2. Metronome comes in handy3. Easy-to-use record button lets you playback what you just played during practice4. Comes with a practice pianobook with 59 pieces including 3-4 ofthe more popular Chopin, Schubert, Schumannn, Bach, Mozart, Debussy,Beethoven pieces and some lighter ones like The Entertainer.5. Overall great sound for this price rangeCons:1. The upgraded version of the PX-110 has very fewdifferences. One other key feature is the headphone outlet. For thosein cramped quarters, or the pianist who wishes to practice late in thenight without disturbing others, this feature is excellent; alongsidethe recording option which allows you to playback your performances.From my recollection, there were only a few more instrument soundsavailable. Since most people shopping for an instrument like this wanta professional quality digital piano, I don't think the lack of a banjosound will affect the purchase decion. In essence, this instrument isexactly what I was looking for. Something that's portable, soundsgreat, touch sensitive, and capable of demanding pieces in theclassical repertoire. From someone new to pianosSince there were no reviews yet, I thought I'd put in my two cents.Mind you, this is my first musical instrument, so I'm not experiencedwith this sort of product. However, I've had a friend who is anexcellent pianist check it out.Anyways, this seems to be a very good piano so far. It has a good,stereo sound. The display is kind of nice as a beginner, as it showswhat note you're hitting. If you care, it has a nice variety ofdifferent voices. The keys seem very responsive to me. My piano friendtold me that it has a shorter sustain than a real piano when playingwithout pushing the sustain pedal. Probably not super important forlearning initially, and if you just want to learn the keyboard anddon't care about real pianos, its not an issue at all. I should alsopoint out, that the keys aren't weighted (although they are touchsensitive). A real piano key has more resistance to movement. Icouldn't find weighted keys on any entry level keyboards in my researchthough, so this might simply not be an option for this price range.The only complaint I have about it that doesn't involve comparingit to a real piano is that I find the spacing between the black keys tobe too small to fit my fingers between them easily. I think for morecomplicated melodies you want to be able to "layer" your hands, andthus be able to reach to the back of the white keys. I can pull it off,but I rub against the black keys.The leaning program built into the keyboard, where the piano playsmusic for you and you try to reproduce it, isn't good for a beginner.The songs are too complicated for me starting out, and I don't thinkits a very good substitute for a real teaching program. I've picked upa book from the Hal Leonard program, and have been pleased with that.Eventually I'll probably supplement it with a real piano teacher to getsubtle things like legatos and stuff down better.The survival kit that comes with the package deal is useful. Itcomes with an AC adapter, which you need anyways. It also comes withearphones, which are nice to have. Note that the port on this is largerthan the standard many of us are used to. So without an adapter normalearphones (like your ipod earbuds) won't work with it. I didn't findthe software cd useful, but I don't plan on connecting it to orlearning from the computer any time soon.Lets see... not much else. Not many tracks to splice together yourown pieces, but thats not really what this keyboard is for. So, myfinal verdict is that this is a good deal for the money, based upon mylimited experience. It may not reproduce a piano exactly, but I don'tthink you'll do much better for this level of keyboard. It is a greatinstrument if you just want to get a keyboard and have some funlearning how to play music. I know I'm having a blast with it so far. Excellent BarginI was looking for a unit that would behave much more like a pianothan my current electric keyboard. I am very pleased with the soundquality, sustain of sound, and responsiveness of the keys. This unitcan do everything that I need and more. I have not had time to playwith all of the features but I really like the chord look-up functionand the wide range of possible instrument 'voices' available. Killer Virtual Analog SynthI have been looking at analog modelling synthesizers since theillustrious Nord Lead blew the synth industry away. There have beenmany to follow, but I can honestly say the Alesis Micron gives you themost bang for the buck. There are more features on this little keyboardthan I have seen on any other VA synth coming anywhere near the price. 500 patches of sounds (with room for 400 more to program) runningthe gamut of analog textures (don't believe some reviewers not findingsoft and warm patches.. they are definitely there right out of the box)including sub-bass tones, warm strings, punchy basses, sweet analogdrums and much more in between. The patches are separated by category(lead, bass, drums, pads, etc) and each category can be punched in onthe fly. You have three oscillators per voice (including variable waveshapesand FM) which gives the synth a really fat sound as well as two lowfrequency ocsillators for warmth. Doing quick modulation and filteringchanges can be done with two programmable slider controls. There isalso a pitch bend wheel that lights up when you use it. Programming canbe pretty intuitive if you learn the shortcut method that makes thekeys buttons to select parameters (essentially 37 extra buttons forediting). I have compared the Micron with other VA synths like Korg's VAsynths (MS2000, MicroKorg, Electribe), the Roland 303, the NovationBass Station and can honestly tell you the Alesis Micron can go toe totoe against all of them and many times come out ahead in both sound andfunctionality. The synth also includes a master dual effects processer and asingle drive effects processor per patch (something most VA synthsdon't even include). Not the greatest effects processing in the world,but far from inferior. Essentially the effects help give your soundssome nice ambience. You also get a 40 band vocoder for vocal effects(more robust then the Korg VA synth vocoders) You are limited to8-voice polyphony, but the synth is 32-part multitimbral. The Micron also has a built in step and phrase sequencer thatincludes over 400 patterns preset with drum parts, synth parts andcombinations of both along with room for hundreds of your own. Thephrase sequencer is really easy to use with one button record andlooping. A third type of sequencer you have is a pretty versatilearpeggiator.Bottom line is if you are looking for synth that is affordable yethas an expansive set of analog sounds (and by that I mean a digitalsynth that utilizes analog modelling) this is it. If you are doingelectronic dance music this synth is perfect for you. You won't find abetter value for the money. Sure there are better products out there(Nord is still the tops in my book), but when it comes down to it theMicron will give you professional sounding analog synth sounds and theability to make some killer patches.great sounding synthThis synth is loaded with a lot of great sounds - and it is veryprogrammable. You can program your own beats, phrases, arpeggios andsounds. Layers, splits, assignable sliders. It can do a lot. In fact,for me personally, that's the only problem - it can do more than I canabsorb. I know I'm not using it anywhere near it's capabilities. Inresearching this keyboard I found that most keyboard magazine andequipment reviews gave it high marks on sounds and programing, so I'mfiguring that the difficulty lies with me and not the Micron. Therewill definitely be a learning curve if you're new to programming. Thesounds and beats are very useable and inspiring, so overall I'm quitesatisfied and happy with the keyboard. Micron- Solid analog sound.. dirt cheap. The Micron is a fantastic synth, more capable than its big brotherIon while sharing the same fantastic sound that the Ion is known for.Like all good VAs, the power of the Micron is in its hardware, not itspresets. Romplers have good presets, but that's as far as you get-- No,the micron has weak presets but a strong core. The UI, which takes a lot of flak from many reviewers, actually isvery usable. It's shortcut based, so if you put a bit of time intolearning it you find it's actually very quick and easy to use.Naturally having everything on the front panel, as does the Ion, wouldmake editing operations significantly faster- but it's not at all bad. If you're looking for honest analogue sound, the Micron is probablyat the top of the list of VAs made right now. It's VERY analogue, andhas an extremely impressive variety of filters. Don't be scared off by the minimalist UI or some of the boringpresets- The Micron is the Real Thing(tm) and can shake the walls.

Good productWe bought this keyboard last week and are having a blast with it! I've always wanted to learn to play the piano, and while this isn'ta piano, it's as close as I can get while I'm living in an apartment. It came with a stand and power supply, but not headphones like the premium version, all for less than $100 at Target.There is a song bank with over 100 songs to choose from, and itteaches you to play 3 different ways. It has a voice to tell you whichfingers to use to play which can be turned off with the push of abutton. The keys light up really well, and the sound is acceptable forthe price.The only thing that I don't like is the display. It's a little hardto see when you're sitting down and playing. It would be nice if it wasangled a little so there wasn't a glare on the screen.Overall, I'd say it's worth the money.

MixedThe Piano sound is truly the best sound you can find for even under $1000, and this is only $500. Thats the good news. The other sounds are ok, the organ sounds being the worst, and theelectric piano being the best non-piano sounds. The worst part (and thereason i wouldnt buy it again) is the touch. If you plan on justpounding out chords, itll be fine, but if you play classical, jazz, oreven most pop-styles that require a bit of touch, you will hate thispiano. They say it is "Hammer-Action" but really they should be called"way-over-weighted". Wears out within a few months.If you want to bang keys for a few days and then put this into thecorner of your darkest closet this keyboard is probably fine. But, ifyou were planning on using this as a tool to learn to play a keyboard Iwould advise against it. After less than 4 months (Less than 40 hourstotal use) the keys are all starting to squeak and bend oddly.If you're like me (and want something that is at least reliable andfeels right even though you aren't a pro) I'd advise spending a bitmore to get something that isn't so flimsy, as this is just annoyingand I'll have to go replace it now. I have no idea what better productsexist (I'm not a pro, as I stated), but I will seek one out.Good little board!I'm a first time user of keyboards...I'm taking keyboard lessons ata local music shop. I am absolutely fascinated with this thing, andit's really fun to learn. Great keyboard for experienced players or those wanting to learnI bought this keyboard as my first.I had used digital midi controls before, and that's one of the main purpose I had for this. I want to make rhythmic sounds.This is great for that. I have played with the hundreds of tones,which range from realistic to cool to just plain goofy. The vastmajority of instrumental tones sound very realistic, and the synthtones are just out of this world. Throw in the pitch wheel, and we'vegot a winner. You can also sample your own sounds and save compilationson the SD slot.The one thing I didn't expect was how well I would start learningto play on this. The actual learning programs leave much to be desired.But the feature of showing a staff with what notes you are hitting inreal time really help the novice in reading sheet music, andcorrelating those notes to the keys.Casio gets an A+ for this one. I just wish they would make a synthesizer in this price range.

Excellent Keyboard for the PriceDon't let the fact that this machine is an "entry-level keyboard"hinder you from purchasing it. It can be played and enjoyed bybeginners and advanced players alike. As stated in my previous reviews, I have owned many Yamaha andCasio keyboards in the past 25 years or so. This is the best portableI've owned yet and I can't wait to take it out on a gig in late August.The piano sounds very much like the higher-end digital pianos forwhich Yamaha is known. Many of the voices and features on this boardare ones found in my Yamaha DGX-500. The only minor complaint I have isthat the volume level could have been increased a little. But one cancompensate by using an amplifier or speaker if necessary. I was quite impressed with the wonderfully orchestrated built-insongs. One can listen to them for pure enjoyment or learn to play themusing the lessons built into the instrument. Personally, I don't usethe lesson feature, but it's there for those who want it. In summary, if you want an affordable, lightweight keyboard to totearound, this is definitely the one to buy. The sound quality is verygood for a keyboard in this price range. You won't feel as if you'replaying a toy when you perform, and there are really neat intros andendings to enhance your performances. They are the same ones found onthe better Yamaha instruments. This is not always true with the Casioinstruments. Another thing, when I purchased this keyboard from Musician'sFriend, since Amazon.com didn't have it as yet, I had to buy theadapter separately. This shouldn't be. There weren't even any batterieswith it. How is one to play it after getting it out of the box? Itwould stand to reason that there should be at least one type of powersupply included in the box. Fortunately, I knew enough to read the fulldescription and bought the adapter along with the instrument and gotthem both delivered on the same day, thank goodness. Buy this great keyboard. I know you'll be very happy with it.

Great keyboard for a beginner.I absolutely love this keyboard. The built-in "song trainer" isquite helpful, teaching you the song one hand at a time and then bothhands. While the built-in songs are your typical public-domain fare(e.g. Canon in D, Turkey in the Straw, Ode to Joy, etc.), they arestill fun to learn and play. The USB port on the piano also lets meplug the keyboard into my MacBook with a USB cable (not included) andplay/record music in GarageBand. Also, I've been shopping around andit's hard to find a beginner's keyboard with touch-sensitive keys atthis price.I take away one star due to the misleading picture. I want to notethat while the Amazon image shows a keyboard stand, an AC adapter, andheadphones with connector adapter, this model number of the LK220 doesnot include *any* of those items. Only the keyboard came in thepackage. Only packages with the model number LK220 PPK and LK220 ADinclude at least an AC adapter. This meant that I had to run on AAbatteries until my AC adapter came in. But I got the keyboard at agreat price, even without the AC adapter, so I'm still happy with thiskeyboard.

Casio WK3800 keyboard
The Casio WK3800 is a fun and very versatile keyboard with good quality onboard speakers. My previous keyboard, which I still have, is an older Yamaha PSR series. The WK3800 gives you a good deal of control and "fine tuning" for each of the preset digital voices/tones (e.g., attack/release, touch response, reverb, vibratto, resonance, octave, pan, equalizer, and other effects, which can be saved as new user tones ... and then mixed (using layer and split) onto the keyboard and saved as an entry in the register. You can monitor/record on several separate tracks of and, later, put them all together for a rich composition playback. The only downside with recording to the separate tracks is that you lose the layer/split functions during recording (a small hassle that I hope the next series of Casio keyboards will rectify). If you would like to have a layered and split recording (four tone settings used), you have to record each of the four tones separately (i.e., record yourself playing your song four times). This limitation of the record function is the only reason I did not give the Casio WK3800 4 stars out of 5, instead of a perfect 5.

If the recessed screws underneath the back are loose I have played the Casio PX-320 for a couple weeks and am abeginner/intermediate piano player. The PX-320 keys have texture andshape and pressure and volume range and return speed that invitesmaking music. The PX-320 is scaled (graded) so that treble notes areeasier and quicker versus bass notes are harder and slower. The keysare weighted and have a simulated hammer action. For my taste thekeyboard is a joy to play and is close to an acoustic piano. I think the Yamaha YPG-635 and Yamaha P85 have at least as goodtouch and piano sound. I liked the Yamaha YPG-635 display and controlsand features and sounds. The YPG-635 is too wide to lay flat in my carwhile the PX-320 lays on my back seat or back floorboard. The PX-320base is flat and as large as the top, unlike the P85 that has a basesmaller than the top. The P85 has 10 voices. The PX-320 weighs 26 lbs(12kg). The PX-320 has 11 one-touch sounds like grand piano, electricpiano, organ, strings and synth-voice. The PX-320 has 60 wide rangingCasio voices. The PX-320 has 128 General MIDI (GM) voices and 2 DrumSets. I am pleased with the variety and quality of the voices. I likethe large 3-character display and miss a numeric keypad and graphicdisplay. The speakers are fine for a bedroom or living room. If therecessed screws underneath the back are loose the speakers can causeplenty of subtle or annoying noise. You can even add a 3rd voice ifsplit the keyboard. 128 polyphony allows to play without the PX-320 todrop notes, even during sustained phrases.A the PX-320 offer a lot of settings, check out the doc (online on the Casio website) to feel your confort with its interface.It takes some time to get what you want but you can store yoursettings in the 96 registration slots for instant setting retrieval. Amust that lacks the PX-200. In addition the drum sets are dynamic (sound soft or louddepending on your strike speed) and that allows very decent drum playand midi edition.Over all a great DP that delivers way more - it would even be aperfect Midi studio controller if it would come with the usualmodulation and pitch bend wheels.Time for me to get back to it and play my preferred classicalpieces. I purchased the PX-320 in January, 2009 in Japan thinking to revive
my skills having grown up playing on an upright. I was overwhelmed by
the sound, feel and overall functionality of the keyboard. The onboard
speakers weren't great unless you crank up the volume but with the
earphones - AMAZING!! The keyboard also included everything else I
needed - pc connectivity for MIDI, learning mode, recording,
accompaniment - you name it, it had it. It's also portable with a very
low footprint which was just perfect for a small apartment.

Once ordered, I probably got one of the first batch manufactured.
With that in mind, I made sure to spend a little extra and get an
extended warranty which was probably one of my better decisions.

Keyboard arrived, I unpacked and assembled all and started going
to work. My prime goal was to exercise my fingers so I started with the
Hanon exercises pretty much everyday. If you know these exercises then
you'll know that the keyboard will get used extensively!
After approximately four or five months of Hanon, the keys
started giving a rattling sound like something was loose inside. With
more playing, more keys got worse. The problem seemed to occur
principally on E & F, followed by C keys. I called Casio and got a
service engineer whom proceeded to `grease up' the inside of the keys
which reduced the problem for a short time until I started with Hanon
again after which the keys went really bad. Another call and they
replaced the mechanical keys component.

All was fine until E & F keys started failing again. Same
problem, same symptoms and same gradual degeneration as the piano gets
played more which is really sad given that Casio have worked hard on
developing the sound system and the mechanical feel and they advertise
this as a selling point.

Anyway, to cut a long story short I called Casio again and they
now refuse - yes, REFUSE - to service the item stating that the same
problem will happen again so why fix it!?! They also refuse to refund
my money. It's ok. I still have a five year guarantee. They're under
contract!

My point to this whole posting is to notify you, a possible purchaser, that I believe the manufacturing process for the mechanical parts in this keyboard is flawed and they do not test the keyboards rigorously under a strict quality control program. Otherwise, they would certainly have found the issue and fixed it. This problem will not surface under normal non-repetitive leisure playing 10 minutes a day - at least until the guarantee has well expired. The key module may also be used in other Privia models including the 700 series. Buyer beware!

Electronic keyboardI ordered it in black and was shipped blue, but other than that itis a great keyboard for the money. I am not sure who has more funplaying with it- my daughter or my husband and I. Priced too highThis is a very cheaply made keyboard that should probably go for$25 or less. The volume control doesn't work for the mic, which isear-piercingly loud, and the volume buttons are incorrectly placed (the"volume up" button is pointing to the left and the "volume down" ispointing to the right) which can be very confusing for children who arelearning. It didn't even come in black; it was royal blue which makesit look as cheap as it sounds.Easy To LearnI bought this to learn keyboard with, along with a dvd/manualcombo, and spent a few months teaching myself to play. While the soundis not great, it was a great price and just what I wanted to learn on,just to see if I could learn to play.

Korg digital pianoThe Korg SP 250 had all the features we wanted in a digital piano.The sound is very rich in the bass range and the voice feature is great(choir-who and choir-do).The stand is strong even though it lookedflimsy in the photo. A great pianoI've been eyeing the Casio PX800 for a phew weeks and have spenthours reviewing reviews on the internet. All the reviews online made methink that the PX800 was super duper good. When I went in Guitar CenterI was determined to buy the PX800 to replace my old YTP210 keyboard...I even almost ordered it over Ebay. But when I played the PX800 it justdidn't feel or sounded right...and the color is just not my type. Thenthe YDP140 caught my eye. It looked great, it sounded great, and itfelt great. The P140 did feel a little better though... but it didn'thave the stand and pedal and bench so I went with the YDP140. I gottatell you I'm impressed and am very satisfied with my decision. NOT worth the moneyIf you're looking for a deal, look elsewhere. I just began taking apiano class about a month ago, and I was looking for a keyboard topractice with. I've never taken a music class in my life and even Icould tell the sound was off. The keyboard looks like it's made of cheap plastic. The ownersmanual consists of a few pages of photocopied papers stapled together.It doesn't have an address, phone number or warranty information. Contains Ableton Live LiteI had the item for a couple of months and never tried out theprogram Ableton Live Lite, because I heard the keyboard was the perfectcompanion for GarageBand. Even though that is true, it will work withjust about any music production software, including the Ableton Live,which I started using, and so far it looks really promising. This is somuch better than using the keyboard, I have to say. And the size andweight of it make it very convenient to use. You also can't beat theprice. Sometime in the future, I hope to get an APC40 to go along withan upgraded version of Live 8 for my music production needs. Hope thishelps. Wrongly advertisedAlthough advertised to work just fine on Windows Vista, that ismisleading to say the least. It comes with two sets of software thatthe publishers finally admitted will not work on Vista. They do insistthat the keyboard itself will work on Vista, so if you can find and buysome other programs that will run on Vista, it might work. No, theydidn't know which software to recommend. And the instructions on how touse the keyboard were on the non-working software, so even if you do,you would have to figure out on your own how to use it on the newsoftware. hmmm...I am a 36 yo man, I've always wanted to learn piano so I thoughtI'd get this keyboard which I thought had built in lessons that wouldguide my learning to play the piano...For all intents and purposes, doesn't the description seem toinfer that? That with the Y.E.S.5 teaching system and all those builtin songs you'd have a well thought out lesson plan built in. That wasmy misunderstanding:::What it actually is is a nice keyboard that you can learn on, butit won't teach you- the emphasis is on getting out what you put in- youhave to really stumble your way thru learning the built in songs thatthe keyboard lights up the correct keys you're supposed to strike-there is not a good fluid way to learn a little piece at a time (Itdoes have an A-B feature but it's not so much a loop as it is a measureto measure cycle with a 2-4 bar intro, each time!) So its not like youcan just sit there and play it over and over and over again until youand your fingers get it, its: play the 2 or so bars you select (A-B)and then at the end, it goes thru at least a 2 bar beat count and thenresumes the 2 bars of the song you're trying to learn.... does thatmake sense?There are not lesson plans. In the book it says to "Listen to andLearn" the song. My memory isn't that fantastic that I can learn thesongs by listening to them and then just learning, I think it would bea vast improvement to have a real loop feature that you could use toselect a portion, loop it ad infinitum until you learn it and them moveon. Also, I was really thinking that with the latest Learning System(Y.E.S.5) that there would be beginner lessons on reading the sheetmusic, finger drills, scales, etc... all the stuff you learn whenyou're learning piano- this piano system is for prodigies and peoplewho already know piano.So while it is a nice keyboard, it is not the EZ piano that willteach you how to play, you will have to look elsewhere to learn, orteach yourself, but this keyboard with all its songs and such will notbe a step by step tutor....Nice keyboardI purchased this as a gift for my wife. We have't had a chance toreally get into all it's functions, but so far it's great. Very lightweight, the lighted keys work fine, the sound is terrific, and thesound is sensitive to the pressure on the keys. We both hope to learnsome basic songs in the future with this.

Edirol PCRI have 7 Roland pieces of gear other than this one. They are allsuperbly engineered and accompanied by the worst manuals one canimagine.This PCR control surface integrates in Cakewalk Sonar 7 flawlessly--but you would never know it reading the Cakewalk Help files.If you order this item, load it to a direct USB port, not a hub.When booting the computer, do not boot other USB music devices until ithas booted.When used in Sonar, you simply select it in Options, Edirol PCR 2IN, Edirol PCR OUT. Select Edirol PCR 1 in a track to record from thekeyboard.Hitting the Dynamic Mapping Button brings up the surface controller from the Tools menu.When you load up a synth or use it as a mixer surface for audio,all the mapping has been done. Just move the controls and watch thevalues change on the track screens or Synth window.Ignore all that mapping nonsense. Cakewalk has done it.And you can make it learn new stuff in ACT--read the help file or watch the video on Cakewalk's site.In Project 5, this thing is an entire orchestra control.It would be nice if Roland actually hired people to write manualsthat made some sense. It's a big joke among many of us that use Rolandgear.Great with SONAR ACTAfter spending months and hundreds of dollars on MIDI controllerkeyboards to use with SONAR's ACT technology, I had given up. Purchasedthe PCR-300 and laughed at how easy it was to simply plug and play toget full control of SONAR. Forget all the custom mapping and templatessupplied by KORG and M-Audio to work in SONAR. Full trasport, track andplug-in control pretty much right out of the box. Now, until they comeout with a MIDI controller that has 200 plus knobs, buttons andsliders, you will have to "page through" ACT settings to access ALL ofthe controllable parameters, but all the major ones are available atyour fingertips from startup. With Roland owning both Edirol andCakewalk, I'm glad they got their foot in the door with this one.The rotaries are nice and silky, buttons are a bit "shallow" (wouldlike a bit more give on those) and the sliders are traditionally thinand loose feeling. It's hard to find a controller with the samesilkiness and resistance on the sliders as they have on the rotaries.In summary, the ease of setup (and relief from previous hardship) and the decent build make for a welcome investment.Excellent StealWell to start off I do think this product is excellent when youactually get it to work with your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation, VI(Virtual Instrument or whatever. A little bulky for my taste but itdoes the job. Definately a lot better than the EMU X board 25(Waaaaaaybetter but lots cheaper with more LE software to try if you arestarting out). If you are on a strict budget less than $$$.$$ +shipping & the time naw you better off saving that your $$(exceptif shipping is free). If you are in Hawaii its a steal these guys dontkeep nothing in stock here. sheesh. You don't have to take my word forit but its worth it. PROS: Controls are on point: smooth movement, nice rubber padding, andthey are 2 tone Black silver and none of them are disabled and can beassigned to multiple tracks with out affecting the one you are notcurrently manipulating.Lots of (50) controls basic fuctions for music: play, record, stopetc.. never can find a pause but oh well, aftertouch, knobs, sliders,change octave up/down, pressure/velocity sensitive pads, wieghted keys,some products have that springy feel to them and you here that soundlike and old spring board but not this one.50 fully assignable controls, and editor software (Mac & PC) compatable & yes with 32&64bit OS. Come with a great start up pack for jumping right into musicproducing Sonar LE (record Audio & MIDI) great tool, Project 5(Make beats) kind of difficult too use but with a lil time it will growon you,Dieminsion LE nice (for funky sounds)synth. A nice inexpensive upgradeI learned "piano" on a Yamaha portable keyboard but was gettingfrustrated with the lack of touch sensitivity of the keys as my playingimproved. This was a good upgrade for me as I can be more emotive whilestill keeping the instrument within my budget/skill level. Therecording feature is a kick too as you can have a player piano effect.One bit warning for those doing similar upgrades, it did require a bitof a learning curve in terms of adjusting to the different sound oftouch sensitivity but now it doesn't sound "weird" to me and I'm glad Imade the switch.

Great Keyboard within an affordable price rangeThis keyboard works great. It has many features and true Yamahavoices. I love it. Only thing is the stand that is not from YAMAHA soit does not fit axatly as it should be.
